SIMON AND TAMMY WIN REGIONAL SONG OF THE YEAR
Posted Friday, October 09, 2009
The awards night for WA songwriters happened in Freo last night with the WAM Song Of The Year competition.
Two songs - 'Well Enough Myself' from the Now That The Horses Have Bolted' that Simon wrote and 'Spirit Calling' which Tammy and Simon wrote together - were nominated for the awards in the 'Regional' category. While nominated last year in both the rock and blues'n'roots categories for two songs from the Now That The Horses Have Bolted, Simon went home empty-handed for 2008. Not so this year.
Being currently in Sweden, Tammy and Simon were obviously unable to attend the awards ceremony, but guitar-slinger and Spirits studio-collaborator Grant Ferstat kindly shot them a message via Facebook from the venue as the win was announced.
Long-time friend Brad Cecins kindly attended and accepted the award on Tammy and Simon's behalf.
The win means that Tammy and Simon can return to Australia with a recording session waiting for them and with some extra momentum to get 2010 rolling. Many new songs have been trialled in a few local gigs in Sweden (see the myspace link for a listen -> click here) and will be shortlisted for their recording and debut release.
